Free Speech Generating Devices from DOR
12-15-2020 - The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) has partnered with the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program (DDTP), to create the Voice Options Program.
The Voice Options Program offers eligible Californians who are unable to speak, or who have difficulty speaking, with a free speech-generating device. The goal of this program is to ensure full and equal telephone communications
access for all Californians with disabilities.
Through this program, any eligible Californian referred to a Voice Options provider will have the opportunity to test five different speech-generating applications for up to 14 days. The five applications that will be provided
• GoTalk NOW Plus
• LAMP Words for Life
• TouchChat HD with WordPower
Once the trial period has ended, the individual will exchange the borrowed iPad for a new one with their preferred speech-generating application already loaded and ready to go.
Our goal is to provide 500 free devices by June 30, 2021. IF you know anyone who would benefit from a speech-generating device, please refer the to https://dor.ca.gov/Home/VoiceOptions, or they can email us at
