Mental Health Awareness Month: Youth Incarceration

Meet Dr. Jacob Appel

Wednesday June 20, 2018 7-9:30 PM

Has your loved one ever threatened suicide or made an actual attempt? Can anything be more terrifying for a family member than experiencing a loved one expressing the wish to die? What do you do? Do you rush to the ER? Do you call the police? Is hospitalizing the person with BPD the best solution?

Meet Jacob Appel, MD: physician, lawyer, bioethicist, social critic, novelist and poet.

As a psychiatrist at Mt. Sinai Hospital he realized how police involvement, ER visits and  hospitalizations were experienced from the patients' point of view. This has led him to develop a new perspective on how to respond to suicidal threats or attempts. He will share ideas with you and offer you new ways to react to your loved one's pain.
