Each year, the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) hosts the Jacobus tenBroek Disability Law Symposium, a national symposium named for the its founder, who was blind and served as the president of the organization until his death. Jacobus tenBroek was renowned as a constitutional law scholar, a civil rights activist, a leader in social welfare reform, and a champion for the rights of the disabled to participate on an equal and integrated basis in society.
The Jacobus tenBroek Disability Law Symposium provides disability rights attorneys, educators, policy-makers, and other advocates a forum in which to carry forward Dr. tenBroek’s work toward achieving, for all citizens, an opportunity to direct our destiny; live free from discrimination, low expectations, and damaging stereotypes; and fully participate in society.
